“The best moments in reading are when you
come across something – a thought, a feeling, a way of looking at things –
which you had thought special and particular to you. Now here it is, set down
by someone else, a person you have never met, someone even who is long dead.
And it is as if a hand has come out and taken yours.”
—Alan Bennett
When reviewing books, I will give it a rating out of 5 stars. My review system is as follows:
★ = Hated it
★★ = I didn't like it, except for maybe a few things that deserve some recognition
★★★ = Mixed feelings; it had its good parts, but it wasn't perfect
★★★★ = Enjoyed it except for a few things here and there
★★★★★ = Loved it, favorite, recommend
This is also my review system on my Goodreads account. Feel free to come find me and add me as a friend! Even if we have different tastes in books or conflicting views, I don't think that should stop us from being bookish friends!
“Books are our common ground. A
good book gets you out of your head. A good book gives meaning to life. It
gives you the language to describe what you experience. A good book will make
you understand why you are in pain after heartbreak. It will make you miss your
stop on the subway. A good book will fight your heavy eyelids, demanding that
you stay awake for one more chapter. In a time where there is so much out there
commanding our attention, it provides a reason to focus.”
